Don't be careless and light up just any place, any time you want to!

It's a pretty amazing thing to realize that, with all the talk about how bad smoking is and how much damage it does to the human body (not to mention second-hand smoke and third-hand smoke) people who have never smoked before are toying with the idea that they just might like to take-up the habit! There's many different reasons why people decide to start smoking. A common reason is because they think it will help them to lose weight. That's not always the case. I've seen many overweight smokers so don't buy into that one. Some other common reasons are; it looks cool (see Famous Ex-Smokers). My reason for starting was because I was under a lot of stress and I heard that smoking would help to calm me down. Don't buy into that one either. The best remedy for stress is proper diet and exercise. Believe me, you'll feel better AND look better... and live longer too.

Before we start getting down on these people the first thing to remember is that we're all human and we all have done stupid things and then regretted it later somewhere down the road. What I'm hoping to accomplish with this particular web page is to educate the non-smokers who are considering learning how to smoke. You may have already heard many times before that smoking causes cancer, heart disease, lung disease, digestive disorders, etc., etc. See also Smoking Tobacco Consequences. Not to be taken lightly, the conditions I just mentioned are just a few and they are very deadly. In fact, cigarette smoking causes a very slow death. It can kill you in different ways all at the same time; you could end up with cancer AND lung disease. You could even end up with heart disease on top of that! Smoking does a lot of damage to the human body and it also causes severe damage to the people (and pets) around you that have to breathe in your cigarette smoke.

If you still decide to start smoking cigarettes, even after knowing and understanding that there is nothing positive about smoking tobacco and that only negative effects are possible to you and those around you, then at least consider this; Don't be careless and light up just any place, any time you want to. You'll just be setting yourself up for a very difficult and painful experience when the time comes that you do decide to quit, either because it's making you sick and you have little or no energy left, or maybe because a doctor is telling you your lungs are so damaged that even one more cigarette will cause your death (I saw that happen to someone I loved). If you at least decide right from the beginning to smoke ONLY in certain places (or one certain place) at certain times you will at least have a certain amount of control over your smoking habit after you get hooked - and you will. This really makes all the difference in how hard or seemingly impossible it will be to quit in the future. Whenever you smoke a cigarette you are linking it with associations; driving, drinking coffee, talking on the phone, hanging out with friends and so on. The fewer associations you create the better.

I recommend this book whether you're a smoker trying to quit or a non-smoker thinking about starting to smoke. This book, as small as it is, gets right to the point and will help you take control of your smoking habit.
